PENGUIN

THE LITTLE PENGUIN

Eudyptula minor

Little penguins live on the southern coast of Australia and New Zealand. They are also known as fairy penguins. They are the smallest penguin species in the world. They are only 40-45 centimetres long.

The little penguin eats fish. It swims by using its wings as flippers. Its wings can not be used to fly.

The little penguin is solitary when it goes fishing but it nests in a colony. They lay two white coloured eggs at a time in their burrows in the rocks and sand.

The biggest threats to little penguins are pollution and litter, and attacks by dogs and cats.
